PEAKS AND SLOPES
Peaks and Slopes is a screen print and ink collaborative series. Having recently relocated to Western Canada, Natasha's inspiration was fuelled by Alberta's majestic landscape and wildlife. Christina's inspiration comes from her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario where she draws the beauty of Hamilton from its surrounding escarpment. Influenced by the childhood game, 'exquisite corpse' each artist followed a set of rules and guidelines, whereby they created their artwork separately, never showing the other their progress. By juxtaposing the silkscreen's natural graphic image against the delicate hand drawings, the artists hoped to create new and interesting topographies. Christina and Natasha had the opportunity to curate the series once all the layers were completed and brought together. Through exploring Canada's vast and diverse landscape, Peaks and Slopes speaks to the idea of keeping friendship alive through art, even when that friendship spans thousands of miles.
